Tamara McDaniel's "Black Women With Real Hair"

My name is Tamara McDaniel I’m a professional makeup artist from the Miami area. I started this page because I have often been asked questions about my hair. Black women (relaxed, natural, or transitioning) love to talk hair. This is a new era in Black hair. For the first time individuals and corporations are focusing on what's best for Black hair and not just what makes it straightest. As I've said a million times…This is not an ANTI chemical page. We are not anti-relaxer or anti-dye. My mission is to let all Black women (no matter what percentage of Black they are) know that their hair IS an option. ..Their REAL hair. Let’s dispel the myths. YOUR HAIR DOES GROW. Maybe you are the type that has to be natural, maybe you can’t color, maybe you have to use a relaxer only once every six months, or maybe you can do texturizers. If you learn what’s best for your hair your hair you can have the hair length you desire. IT’S THAT SIMPLE! One thing this is group is against is people trying to sell their hair potions promising to “make your hair grow”. It’s silly! Science has that covered and NOTHING but pregnancy can make your hair grow more. Hair grows about 6 inches a year. What helps? Reduce breakage. PERIOD! ~Tamara McDaniel Black Women With Real Hair

Hi there! I have a question. I've not had a perm/relaxer in 5 or 6 months. My hair is starting to get thick and I see some minor breakage. I'm torn between going natural full out or putting a relaxer back in it. How would I go about having manageble hair at this stage or I guess I'm asking how to transition to natural without cutting off all my hair. Thanks for lending your knowledge to me.:-)

I would do braid for a while. While you are in braids, rethink what you consider to be “manageable”. VERY FEW people on this planet have wash-n-go hair.

Hi! I'm 16 and i'm about to take my box braids out to start with the natural hair, i'm excited but I don't know anything about it. I've watched a lot (a lot) of videos but It's really hard for me to look for products and organize myself (I live with a white family and I don't even have black friends so!). Could you explain to me an easy order to put them all together ? By the way my hair is 4c :)
realblackhair realblackhair Said:

Remeber, it’s not as hard as you think. Think easy and just do it.
Keep it moisturized!

You may have mentioned it earlier, but what brand of organic shampoo did you use for your wash-and-go?
realblackhair realblackhair Said:

I only co-wash my hair. My hair is 4C and can easily dry out.

I saw this video and fell in love. I contacted the artist ( https://www.facebook.com/tyrant.negatoupri?fref=ts )

He sent me this…

"It’s a tribute to all these women who respect their nature, who know where they from and claim [their] origins

This video, come from the Antilles, more exactly from Guadeloupe, where some black women also fight to protect their natural and glittered without chemical and other subtleties.

The language used is the “Creole” who takes his origins of the slavery who rages on this old French colony.

I subtitled the words on its links, it’s just to choose “Anglais, English” click on “CC”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxz8GzpT5WA&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PL9C384B4EA83EDE39

Leslassa is 19 yrs old and currently a contestant for miss world 2013, she has always been natural and started the Dream foundation. This photo is her with some beautiful little girls at a childrens center.

My daughter Eden is an 11 year old actor in Chicago, she has done numerous stage performances and has been a recurring character on the tv series Boss.  She loves her natural hair! www.edenelyse.com

I am a semi-pro photographer with my own studio. My make-up artist has natural hair and so does her 12 y/o daughter. I would like to submit the daughter's photo; I already have permission from the Mom. I would also like to submit the Mom's photo, and in the quite near future post a photo of the Mom and the daughter together wearing their beautiful natural hair. Mom also has a 17 y/o son with locks. I plan to do a family shoot and submit that as well. May I start by submitting the 12 y/o's photo?

Dear Ms. McDaniel,

I’m not sure if you’ve had an opportunity to view this unfortunate video:

Thank for showing positive and uplifting images on your Facebook page. I wish people who believe as Underwood does would get on the positive self-esteem boat.

I’m not one to watch talk shows. This is one show I know not to watch.

I welcome your opinions.

Who is Antoinette Tuff? This is what they will soon be saying. Ms. Turf is a bookkeeper and a 8 year veteran of the Dekalb County school district. She is also the woman who single-handedly thwarted a would be mass murderer’s (Michael Brandon Hill) attempt to shoot up an Atlanta Elementary school.  According to CNN Tuff
talked suspect Michael Brandon Hill into surrendering after a brief standoff with police Tuesday afternoon.

This woman was thoughtful, kind, intelligible, and an all around well put together lady. This means her interview will not go viral. She won’t be the topic of the “beat down a black woman” crowd via blogs or YouTube videos. You will not see her like you see Antoine Dobson, the “ain’t no body got time for that” lady, or Charles Ramsey.

It is up to us to take control of our image. I say “our image” because in this society Blacks and Hispanics are often seen as one person… the person who does the most negative acts.

Let’s share, tweet, take to Tumblr, Istagram… Hell, even Myspace. Lets SHARE SHARE SHARE this woman as if she said, “Ain’t nobody got time for that”. We owe it to our daughters to celebrate images that they can be proud of.
